As the number of brothers grew, Francis wrote a simple rule of life directly inspired by the Gospel. His intention was to offer guidelines that would help the brothers live out the fraternity and its mission. 

Francis and his companions traveled to Rome to present it to the Pope. Papal approval allowed the new fraternity to be officially recognized by the Church and to continue growing.
